Albanian Sign Language: Fostering Community And Identity

The Albanian Sign Language (ASL) community fosters communication and cultural identity among deaf and hard-of-hearing Albanians. The Albanian Deaf Association (ADA), National Agency for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (NARPD), and World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) champion ASL’s advancement. The University of Tirana provides interpreters and educators, while the National Institute for Deaf Children supports deaf children. Key individuals, such as Prof. Mirela Hoxhallari and Prof. Astrit Musataj, have significantly contributed to ASL research and advocacy.
